I just finished reading "A Few Minutes Past Midnight". I have read nearly all the Toby Peters books and think that they are fantastic! Being an old movie buff, I can't resist mentioning a small inaccuracy that appeared the above book and in one previous title. Toby again makes a comparison to something in a Monogram serial. Although Monogram produced over 700 feature films, the studio never made a serial.

several caused confusion. I will be glad to list them for you if you are interested. I don't remember this happening in your earlier books, although I haven't read everything you have written. I especially like the Porfiry Rostnikov novels.

I just finished two of the Leiberman books. Excellent work. Real, down-to-earth writing. Charachters who become very real. Leiberman's knees I can relate to. :)

The Abe Lieberman books really capture the Chicago I grew up and lived in - the Northside, the near-Northside, the far-northside, east and West Rogers Park, the ethnic neighborhoods of Chinatown, little Mexico, Greektown on and on. The characters in these stories are people I could have known. The mystery and detective work sustain my interest to the last sentence. Wonderful!

Look forward to every new novel. Are you going to anymore Rockford books? Thanks.

The problem with reading a Toby Peters mystery is, when you are finished, you can never read it again FOR THE FIRST TIME! That is how much I love the series. The Porfiry, Abe and Lew mysteries are fun, too, but Tobias Pevsner reigns supreme!

If Fonesca is Italian why did his folks not name hime Lou vis-vis Lew?

After living in Sarasota briefly from 1996-1999, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two Fonesca novels. I have two questions about passages from Retribution. Starting on approximately pg. 133, Fonesca is visiting Lonsberg and Jefferson finds a shell. Fonesca takes it with him, stops at Flo's, gets shot at, returns the car to have the window fixed, and then returns to his office to find Mickey Merrymen there waiting for him. Shortly after, they proceed to the police department and Viviase is in posession of the shell (pg. 143). Fonesca notes 'the shell that Jefferson gave me yesterday'(I don't have my novel in front of me for an exact quote). I have reread this section a number of times and have found nothing to indicate it is the next day. It would appear that it is still later the same day.

In addition, when Fonesca and Ames take Mickey to his dad's house and encounter Viviase investigating the fathers murder, it appears as if Fonesca has to introduce Mickey to the detective(?).

Obviously, these two small questions don't detract from an excellent novel, but I wondered what I missed. Any answers would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Scott O'Connor

Fonthill, ON Canada - Tuesday, November 02, 2004 at 05:54:10 (PST)Just finished "Now You See It." , having enjoyed it immensely. But...was it proofread?? There are 2 chapter 5s. On p. 30 (ch. 3)I found: "I went inside and headed for the stairs. On my left were Mrs. Plaut's room....." Next paragraph: "On my left was the parlor, decorated..."
And, alas, I didn't use a post-it to mark the page, but noted an instance when "ten" was printed as "then". Do you have a chance to make corrections before the paperback edition comes out???'
Keep up the great work.
